Beep! Beep! Beep!
The alarm block buzzed noisily, getting louder after every beep. I sleepily reached over and slapped my hand on the top; shutting it off. I swung my feet off of my bed and rubbed my tired eyes. Once I was somewhat awake, I looked over at the alarm clock.
7:30.
I had exactly a half an hour before I had to get to school before I was late, once again. "I really have to set my alarm clock earlier," I muttered to myself. I grabbed a pile of clothes I had laid out that night and disappeared into the bathroom. After about ten minutes in the bathroom I appeared with my long brown hair pulled back into a ponytail. I pulled my hair over my left shoulder as I adjusted my blue paid shirt. I smiled in mirror, but it was awkward. I didn't believe I was pretty; I was socially awkward, and didn't have much friends accept for close ones.
"Ryanne, honey? Are you ready?" I heard my mum calling from downstairs.
I let out a small sigh and called back, "Yes! I'll be down in a minute!" I grabbed my binder and purse and bounded down the stairs. My brother Riley was already waiting for me. "Do you want to drive today, Ry?"
"You can drive, Riles," I replied quietly as I quickly gave my mother a good-bye kiss. I didn't know it would be the last time I saw her for awhile.
Riley and I pulled into the parking lot of the school. Riley's Lamborghini pulled to a soft stop. How he had gotten hold of enough money to buy one, stumped me. Riley worked two jobs, one at our mother's coffee shop and another at a fisherman's boathouse.
"I can't drive you home after school, you'll have to ask Salina for a ride home," Riley muttered as he opened the car door and headed towards the school. At home, Riley was the caring older brother, even if he was only fifteen minutes older, but at school he wanted nothing to do with me..
"Okay," I half-whispered to myself as I stepped outside and walked towards the school. I quietly made it to my locker without running into any unwanted attention.
13-24-15.
I dialled the numbers of my lock on my locker, I'd only had it for a few months and it was already memorised. I had a mind like that. It helped, especially in subjects like maths and sciences.
"Ryanne!" I heard a familiar voice squeal from behind. I turned around to be see my best friend Salina running towards me. She was wearing one of her famous outfits. Brooke had an unusual look, but it fit her well. She woke a black skinny jeans with a blue and black striped long-sleeved shit. Her hair was messy and unorganised, but miraculously, she pulled it off.
I wonder how she does this every morning! I thought as Salina came to a halt in front of me. She was holding a magazine, the pages opened and facing me. "Look-ey!" Salina squealed again, this time jumping up and down.
I took the magazine from her and surveyed the two pages carefully. I looked back up at Salina, my eyes wide with amazement.
"One Direction! Here? In Canada? Since when?!" I began to pester Salina with questions. She pointed to the article next to the picture.
One Direction hits the West Coast! Small towns be ready to face the loud crowds and screaming fans! One Direction, is touring Canada and the WC is first. The Irish/British boy band is known worldwide and have thousands and thousands of fans! Continue reading to find out what cities they will be hitting! Who knows, they could be touring a city near yours!
I let out a squeal. I had only been a fan of One Direction since they first became a band on the X-Factor. It had only been our dream to have our favourite band come to our city for more then a year. "I hope they come here!" Salina said wistfully and I nodded. I knew my best friend had taken a fancy towards Zayn, the so-called vain one of the band. Myself, however had kept her 'crush' a secret.
Suddenly, the warning bell rang. The first block was to begin and students would have to go to class in five minutes or less, or suffer a detention with Ms. Brothel. She was one of the meanest, and unfair teachers known throughout school.
"Let's go," I whispered and we hurried to our first class.
School was a blur, just like every other day. Few words were shared between myself and the other students, but that wasn't because I was hated. It was because people forgot all about me after the incident six months ago. The incident that had caused a hole in my life. My heart.
Six months ago, I had been spending time with my family at the beach. My mother, my twin brother, and my father, when everyone had decided to go swimming. They had all dove in, but when Dad didn't resurface, everyone had been worried. A week later, his body had washed onto the shore. He had been pulled under by the seaweed and drowned. I shuddered as I remembered. I had promised never to go near water. One of my greatest fears was losing someone else she cared about.
I was just closing my locker when Alexandra skidded to a stop beside me. "I heard!" She hissed and my lips pulled into a smirk. "Salina got to you before me, didn't she?"
Alexandra nodded.
"Well, I was going to tell you, but I guess I wasn't fast enough," I heard myself laughing.
"So it's true?!" Alexandra piped. I nodded, and I had to cover her mouth before she screamed. "Sh! Do you want attention brought on us?" She shook her head no and I heard a laugh again.
"Oh! Before my mother picks me up, Salina wanted me to tell you she can't drive you home. She has a doctors appointment in less then five minutes. She just left now."
"Great," I groaned. "I guess I'll be walking home," I muttered to myself. Alexandra gave me a look of sympathy before turning around and skipping off. She couldn't be late, her parents wouldn't allow it.
Alexandra's parents were strict. Even more so then my own mother. Her dad worked for the government and her mother was a lawer.
I secretly thanked my parents, weren't like that.
I closed gathered my stuff and began walking down the long hallways. As I was turning the corner I felt a sudden pain as I ran into someone. I grunted when I landed on the hard school floor. I sat up and looked around. A boy, was just beginning to stand up.
"Sorry, ma'am. I should have been watching where you were going," he said in a heavily accented voice. He had reflective sunglasses on. His blond hair was hidden by a red New York hat.
"It's okay," I whispered quietly. Surprisingly, he offered his hand to me.
I gratefully took it and he helped me up. "I'm..." he looked away. "Sorry."
"I'm Ryanne, thanks." I couldn't help but laugh a little. He seemed a little strange, and with an accent like that I wondered if he came from the East Coast. What I hadn't realised was that my dreams were about to become a reality.
"I'm so sorry about running into you, I was just trying to...get away," the boy explained.
"It's okay. Really," I said. He seemed persistent on apologising. "If you don't mind me asking, who were you running from?"
"Paparaz-" The boy stopped and looked back quickly. I could hear faint yelling coming from the hallway. He looked at me and looked around wildly. He spotted what he was searching for and grabbed my wrist, dragging me to a closet.
"What are you doing?" I demanded as we both squeezed into the janitor's closet. I had never seen it before, and I had been hoping not to. Brooms lined the walls and a large metal shelf took up the whole entire closest. There was barely any breathing room.
"Sorry, I can't be seen. At least not yet," he apologised again.
"I don't need your apologies. What I'd like is an explanation please." My voice was rather flustered, but I'd never met a stranger like this before.
The boy took off his glasses and the hat. A gasp caught in my thought and I choked for a second. "Niall! Niall Horan? What are you doing here?" I hissed, but I couldn't hide my excitement. My stomach was in knots, and doing flips at the same time.
"Hiding," he gestured to their surroundings.
It finally hit me. I was standing in a closet with Niall Horan. One of the singers from One Direction. The accent, the blond hair, and familiar glasses. How I missed it earlier, I didn't know.
"I meant what are you doing here. As in Canada. At my high school. I know you're supposed to be here on tour but, why here?" I pointed towards the floor. What I meant, was why he was in such a small town. No one ever visted Abbotsford. It was odd, especially to see someone she really admired.
Niall let out an adorable chuckle. "We're touring here, because it's a nice small town. I'm in the school because I lost the lads. Do you know where," he dug for something in his jean pockets. Slowly he pulled out a small piece of paper. "I don't know why I'm telling you this; maybe because you didn't fan girl over me, but this is where we are all supposed to meet up!"
He handed the piece of paper to me. I carefully read it and scanned the address in my mind, trying to pinpoint the location. "I know where it is. It's not to far from here. I can take you if you want," I offered politely. What I wasn't expecting was his answer.
"What about to paparazzi?" Niall asked and bit his lip. I figured he didn't feel like doing an interview for the public or being chased down. "There's a back entrance to the school and an alleyway. I use it for when I don't really want to be here," I admitted.
Niall looked amused. "Skipping? Naughty girl!" He teased but almost immediately his facial expression became serious. A thing I had never seen on him. At least, not in any of the interviews I had watched. "I appreciate if you could do that. I know it's asking a lot, but I can't be seen. Not without the lads."
I smiled slightly and looked towards the door. Very slowly, I opened it. A group of savage-looking photographers looked around wildly.
I smirked mischievously. "OH-EM-GEE! It's Niall Horan!" I screamed as loud as I could after closing the closet door behind me. I pointed down the hallway. "Look! He's running up the stairs to the second floor!" The paparazzi looked at the stairs hungrily and raced after 'Niall', who was still in the janitor's closet. I opened it. "Okay, they're gone for now. Let's go!" She whispered.
